A Spellplagued Land
The Bottle and Blade
The Bottle and Blade Tavern, located in the Trade Ward of Waterdeep, is well known throughout the city as a gambling hall and place to avoid if you value your life, or can’t hold your own with a blade. The City Guard and City Watch often find themselves breaking up fights at the Bottle and Blade, and many times they are removing bodies by the end of it all.
The owner of the Bottle and Blade is Elhand Ebonsnarl, a dragonborn that is known to be well connected to the cities’ inner workings. Elhand lived most of his life on the rough streets of Calimport. It is said that he was taken in by one of the Pashas, and spent many years in their employ before being paid a large sum to turn on and murder his master. Of course one can’t kill one of the Pashas of Calimport and expect to live long, so Elhand found himself on the first ship away from Calimport, which landed in Waterdeep.
Elhand immediately started making contacts in Waterdeep, and used the coin he was paid for murdering his Pasha to purchase the Bottle and Blade, which was previously very run down and almost unused. Elhand opened a gambling hall in the basement of the tavern, and put rooms on the second floor. Information flows freely through the Bottle and Blade, for the right price. The second floor rooms are often used for secret meetings of different types. Elhand rarely attempts to control fighting or even open murder within his establishment, but he has enacted a rule that no weapons are allowed within the gambling area in the basement. This is, of course, only in the best interests of protecting the “houses” coin.
